You will use data-based pedagogy and the National Core Arts Standards to write lessons that inspire and guide students to explore their artistic abilities, develop technical skills, and appreciate the power of art as a form of expression. What You’ll Be Asked To Do Create standards-aligned curriculum and content Teach academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments daily, differentiating as needed Communicate effectively with scholars, their families, and staff Commit to a culture of consistently implementing school-wide systems, structures, and procedures Promote equity by making resources, opportunities, support systems, and classrooms accessible for all stakeholders Analyze instructional and culture data to inform practice and improve student outcomes Create a positive, structured, results-oriented, and engaging learning environment for students with varied abilities and experiences Participate in school community responsibilities and ongoing professional activities (e.g., lunch duty, dismissal, hallway duties, homeroom, advisory groups, content and grade team meetings, professional development, lesson practice, and weekly office hours) What You’ll Need Passion for education and dedication to Coney Island Prep’s mission, values, and commitment to anti-racism Belief that all students can achieve at high academic levels and deserve opportunities to succeed in college and career Bachelor’s degree and NYS teaching certification required; Master’s degree strongly preferred (Coney Island Prep offers $2,000 toward a Master’s degree and NY State certification within two years of employment) Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and willingness to examine beliefs and biases Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills, timeliness, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines Culturally responsive conflict resolution skills Self-reflective and open to feedback with a drive to grow Positive, solution-oriented attitude and drive for excellence Collaborative spirit and ability to work as part of a team Proven ability to build positive relationships with families, students, and staff with a commitment to diversity and inclusivity Who are we? Coney Island Prep High School is a college-preparatory public charter high school in the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn. It is the first charter school in Community School District 21. Founded in 2013, CIPHS serves approximately 350 students in grades 9–12. Since its first graduating class in 2017, CIPHS seniors have college acceptances in hand. The school offers a rigorous curriculum with AP courses, College and Career Readiness classes, and a range of extracurricular opportunities. CIPHS provides financial support starting at a baseline amount of $3,000 annually through the PRIDE Promise Scholarship.
